Band Lockers!

Band lockers?

There is a collection of orange lockers in the 600 hallway outside the band hall doors that are for use by band students.

What are they for?

Instruments:

All instruments smaller than a trumpet should be stored in your band locker.  There will be no flutes or clarinets left in the instrument room.

Music:

All music folders/binders should be stored in your band locker or left in your backpack.  There will be no music folders left in the instrument room.

Practice clothes:

All practice clothes should be stored in your band locker or left in your backpack.  There will be no practice clothes left in the instrument room, drum room, guard rooms, or the band room.

Water jug, snacks:

All water jugs & snacks for practice should be stored in your band locker or carried with you throughout the day.  There will be no water jugs or snacks left in the instrument room, drum room, guard rooms, or band room.

Which locker is mine?

There are not enough lockers to go around so that everyone can have one to themselves.  This is how we share, band room style:

If you know someone in band that you’d like to share a locker with, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Contact that person and ask.
  2. Fill out this online form and enter that person’s name as your requested locker buddy: https://forms.gle/ZCB36tkUzxBi6S6V9
  3. Ask your locker buddy to fill the form out themselves, entering your name as their requested locker buddy.

If you don’t know enough people yet or just don’t have a preference, here’s what you do:

  1. Fill out this online form and enter “no preference” in the name slot.

I will assign lockers this week based on your requests.  I will send out the locker assignment list before school starts, and will post a printed assignment list on the 600 hallway doors.

When can I access my band locker?

In the mornings

The 600 hallway is closed first thing in the morning until the first bell rings. Band students are allowed to access their band lockers in that hallway as long as you

  • enter the 600 hallway from the bandroom
  • go directly to your locker
  • depart the 600 hallway through the bandroom
  • act like civilized human beings

Here’s another time I’m going to apologize for shouting in all caps, but this remains an issue every year:

DO NOT TRY TO ENTER THE 600 HALLWAY FROM THE ATRIUM BEFORE THE FIRST BELL RINGS.

DO NOT TELL ANYONE THAT STOPS YOU “I’M GOING TO MY BAND LOCKER.”

THIS BEHAVIOR WILL SEE THE HALLWAY CLOSED TO EVERYONE – DO NOT BE THE REASON THIS BECOMES A RULE!

During school

Students may access their band locker during school hours.

After rehearsals/games/events

Students may access their band lockers after school/rehearsal, but the morning access rules apply as the rest of the school is closed:

  • enter the 600 hallway from the bandroom
  • go directly to your locker
  • depart the 600 hallway through the bandroom
  • act like civilized human beings

Here comes another all-caps shout, but this ALSO remains a problem:

DO NOT USE THE 600 HALLWAY TO ACCESS THE SCHOOL AFTER REHEARSALS, GAMES, OR OTHER EVENTS

EXIT THE BUILDING VIA THE OUTSIDE BAND DOOR, THEN RE-ENTER THE SCHOOL AT THE DOOR OPEN FOR WHATEVER EVENT YOU NEED TO ATTEND.

What about locks?

I’m tired of arguing with students about locks.  Here are your choices:

  • Check out a lock from me.  Learn how to open it (it is NOT difficult).  Use it properly every day.
    • Your stuff is safe and secure.
  • Do *not* check out a lock from me.  Put your stuff in an unsecured locker.
    • Your stuff is *not* safe and secure.  The band/school is not responsible for anything that goes missing from an unlocked locker.

There is not an option for “what if I bring my own lock?” because that is not an option.  You may use the lock we provide or roll the dice and hope for the best.  Unknown locks will be cut off of band lockers.

Misc. things about band lockers

Please remember that all school property, including your band locker, is subject to search.  Do not store anything there that is not allowed on campus.

DO. NOT. LEAVE. YOUR. MARCHING. SHOES. IN. YOUR. LOCKER.  Take them home, air them out somewhere far away from school and other smelly marching shoes.

Lockers closest to the band room are assigned to student leaders.

Top lockers are assigned to 11 & 12 grade students.  Bottom lockers are assigned to 9th & 10th grade students.

If you want to change lockers in the future please come see me before/after school or during lunch.

If you check out a lock from me and lose it you will have to pay to replace it.
